As a little girl I remember my father’s mother as being distant. I never did get a chance to know her well. She and I never had any personal moments that I recall as meaningful. As I think back on her, I only knew bits and pieces about her through my father. When she passed away I realized she was a stranger to me. One thing I do know is that she loved her son, my father. She was very happy when he walked into her kitchen, took his seat at the head of her table, and received the cup of coffee that was put down in front of him. In regard, to my grandmother, I realize that it is enough for me to know that she loved my father.
My relationship with my father was very important to me. I do not remember having a longing to know my grandmother, or have her know me, but I knew I needed my father. Even a small child understands love that is freely given, and love that is held back. That was the simple truth. My grandmother had her children, and my father had his. It was his children who connected with him, his children who knew him, and his children who knew they were loved. My father, and indeed my mother, are the ones who were responsible for my early foundation of family life.
We all have a responsibly to build a legacy that we can stand upon, one our children can stand upon, and each generation after them. If we stand with God, then our foundation is secure, but if we choose another way we will see it crumble, and decay.
Loving God and putting Him first must always be the mandate of His children. Just as I wanted to know my father and wanted him to know me, so it is with God. I seek to know my heavenly Father, and stand in His truths. The truth that I am loved, that I am needed, and that my Father will never leave me or forsake me, holds me up!
This truth must be personal, not based on what others tell us. We must know it is real, and we must experience it for ourselves. When it is personal you will not be shaken when the days are full of evil, but you will rest in your Father.
When you stand on the solid rock of Jesus, the solid rock of truth, the solid rock of God’s character, though you be surrounded on all sides, you will stand in peace and with complete assurance!
Let faith be your standard and peace your witness!
Ephesians 3:20-21 Never doubt God’s mighty power to work in you and accomplish all this. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream, and exceed your wildest imagination! He will undo them all, for His miraculous power constantly energizes you. Now we offer up to God all the glorious praise that rises from every church in every generation through Jesus Christ—and all that will yet be manifest through time and eternity. Amen
