Are you being asked to turn the page?

I believe that most of us like the idea of predictability. We like having a sense of what tomorrow holds for us, and we especially like imagining that there are no blind corners ahead.

Last week I had an opportunity to do a bit of hiking on a very small part of the Appalachian Trial in north Georgia. Since it was my first time on that particular part of the trail it was all new, and hiking on a beautiful autumn day is always wonderful. As I was enjoying the views from the height of the trail I was very aware of my footing. This trail was heavily traveled, but with potential obstacles in the form of running water, leaves, and slippery rocks. It demanded placing your foot securely and watching for any sudden changes in the path.

I am very aware that at different seasons in my life I have been asked to look beyond what I see, and imagine something that I don’t see. I am asked to turn the page from what I know to what is yet unread.

Occasions like this can cause us to be somewhat hesitate to turn that page. Although, we may like the idea of a newness to our walk, an unfamiliar path may create a bit of uncertainty. So, here lies the key for me. Who is asking me to turn that page, can this Source be trusted, and does it line up with what I have heard previously?

My experience is that God will connect the dots for me by His Holy Spirit. I likely will not see everything laid out completely, but I will have spiritual discernment to know that this is what I am to do, for this Source can always be trusted. It does still require an acknowledgment on my part when I am asked to look forward, and to say yes!

Matthew 4:19 CSB “Follow Me,” He told them, “and I will make you fish for people.”
