I am of the belief that we all have an innate desire to create, whether it is something that we are passionately pursing, or just a private expression that we choose to keep under wraps. Either way, there does exist in us an element that is fundamental to our Creator. God has put within us a longing to emulate our Father, so when I read that someone is impressed by man’s knowledge of how to make things, I feel a smile spread across my face.
When you are surrounded by beautiful art and design it is stimulating to your senses. It often develops in you a personal hunger to create from your experiences. This is why I think that so many individuals who were fortunate enough to have exposure to such things can’t help but to create out of that exposure. Likewise, if you get to witness the beauty of nature in ways that are out of the ordinary, then you will have a greater understanding of what you are looking upon. If you have been to museums where you have seen first hand the works of the master painters and sculptors, you will have an appreciation for art that is not typically standard for the majority of the population.
From what we see and experience we should not be surprised when we ourselves want to attempt our own expression of what has been stirred within us. When I was a very young girl my mother insisted that I learn to sew. She herself was no stranger to a sewing machine, and was keen to get me interested as well. For my part, sewing has never been a go to form of expression for me, but I am very skillful, and so when I see a design that I like, or a material that gets me excited, then I want to put those skills to good use. I will make that jacket that I see and I will enjoy doing it. Once finished it is rewarding to see what you imagined right in front of you!
For many years we have visited museums to experience the beauty of the art encased safely within their walls. We have come away in awe of what has been achieved and marvel at the images that we see on the canvas. When we encounter sculptures that are one of a kind that have been carved out of marble, we wonder how this is possible, and yet these represent elementary examples of what our Creator has fashioned out of nothingness.
The God of the heavens is able to imagine more than we are capable of understanding, but still we are the Father’s handiwork and His most prized creation. This truth alone should not only give us pause to reflect, but give us the freedom to pursue all the creative wonder that has been deposited with us.
Isaiah 40:26 NKJV Lift up your eyes on high, And see who has created these things, Who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, By the greatness of His might and the strength of His power; Not one is missing.
