Do you ever catch yourself wandering?

Sometimes I know exactly where and why a question just seems to pop into my mind, and this is definitely the case with this one. Today was such a day where I realized that being focused was not my focus! I am typically an individual who knows exactly where the day is taking me, up to a point, but this was not evident today.

I think that if we are too driven to get done, what we have decided needs to get done, we can miss important opportunities that come our way. This is what I tell myself when I get so laser focused. In fact, the other day a wise woman who I was with said, “Sometimes we are so focused we can’t surrender.” Just such a brilliant observation!

So, when I started writing this post I thought it was going in one direction, but clearly that was just not true. I assumed I would be building the case for why you don’t want to wander, but actually sometimes it is exactly what we need. Now as I sit enjoying a nice fire, writing this entry for tomorrow, I can honestly say that the day was exactly what it needed to be. I needed to surrender control and allow myself the freedom to just be. By doing this it took me to unexpected places, having unexpected conversations, and ultimately unexpected blessings.

I know it is Thanksgiving week, but we can all benefit from a little rest and relaxation. Put aside your list would be my advice and allow yourself a few minutes of therapeutic wandering.

Psalm 16:11 CSB You reveal the path of life to me; in Your presence is abundant joy; at Your right hand are eternal pleasures.
