The other day I was thinking of patience and how it is considered a virtue. It is a phrase we have heard commonly used by many people, both in and out of the church. In fact, I rarely see patience or virtue apart from each other as it is used commercially in printed form.
For believers, we know that the Bible makes many references to the virtue of patience and its overriding value in our lives. God’s Word speaks of His patience in regard to mankind. It also speaks of our tendency to push God to the limits with our disobedience, and yet He continues to exhibit patience. When I think of patience in relation to who God is waiting for us to become, I am thankful every moment.
My perspective on patience is more than it being a virtue, which in itself is worthwhile, but that it is an asset. When I reflect on how something that is an asset in your life brings a quality, and a desirability to your very walk, I find it exciting. An asset compliments and brings distinction to what we are trying to accomplish, and this is where we see patience as invaluable to that endeavor.
James 1:4 NKJV But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
