A very good friend of mine is keen to say that we, as believers, should be setting the temperature in the room, not the other way around. We don’t want circumstances to be what we use as our gauge. If we do this, then we will be subject to every storm that comes our way.
I recall watching old movies with my mom from the time when the Hollywood stars brought glamour and presence into the room and every eye was on them. Remember? The very atmosphere seemed to change, from a worldly perspective to be sure, but God uses His people to do the same thing. Only with God, the shift that takes place is deeply meaningful.
My husband is in the hospital right now, and to be sure God is putting this time to good use. The other day Jack and I prayed that the fragrance of Jesus would flood the room, and that when people came through the door they would sense immediately the shift. Not only did we feel the peace of the Lord, but we saw clear evidence of that answered prayer. We witnessed hospital staff coming back for repeat visits, even when they didn’t really need to do anything for Jack. We saw the countenance of people change, perceived obvious lingering, heard words like “I hate to leave”, and declaring it as the room of knowledge.
When we seriously open ourselves up to the power of God, we should never be surprised by what He does. Today we know that the Father was all about taking care of business!
Matthew 5:14 -16 CSB “You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lamp stand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”
