The people who are around us all the time often see what we seem to be missing, and this definitely applies to our need to rest. They see us pushing full steam ahead and it has them wondering. I realize that those who have eyes to see, and ears to hear, are asking me this very question, “Are you getting enough rest?”
I think that you all know by now that I work out the internal things in my life right here in this blog. Obviously, as with us all, there are some things that need more percolating, and others that seem to naturally rise to the surface as we allow them to come. A cracked door is enough to let the light start flooding in.
So, that being said, you have heard me say before that I don’t want to miss a single blessing that God has for me, and my prayer is that you won’t miss anything either. As women of faith, we know the good things that are available to us and we claim them as our own. After all, they have had our names on them since before the foundations of the earth, so I consider them marked specifically for us, and no one else. When you know something belongs to you it is easy to get intense about ownership.
I guess you might say that this is why I am intently focused and relentless in my pursuit of my birthright. My birthright comes from my relationship with God. It is my inheritance. It is what I pursue with joy, and it is the relationship that defines me in my pursuit of all things that relate to my identity in Christ.
But, I have a suggestion for you and me. Let’s take a break occasionally in our pursuit, knowing that it will not be lost. Let’s allow ourselves to get more sleep, and to take our rest seriously.
Tonight I am going to schedule some rest and relaxation. I will be taking the advice of my grandchildren, laughing my way through Toy Story 4, and enjoying every minute of it!
Psalm 4:7-8 CSB You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and new wine abound. I will both lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, Lord, make me live in safety.
