When I read in the Bible of the relationship that Moses had with God in the Old Testament I am encouraged. I think of my relationship with God that is ongoing, how He presented Himself to Moses, and how I encounter Him each day. God called out to Moses when he was tending sheep in the desert and Moses encountered God in the burning bush.
I have never encountered God in a burning bush, but my relationship with the living God does burn in my heart. It is a relationship that has been redeemed by the sacrifice of Jesus and one that has continued to develop with the exacting attention of the Holy Spirit.
We have often spoken that no two people are going to have the exact same relationship with God. Each and every one of us is uniquely created and our relationship with our Creator will reflect those remarkable qualities. My relationship with God will not fill all your needs, nor will yours complete me. We each in our own way need to experience the living God.
As I examine the people in the Bible who have had distinctively close relationship with God I see not perfection, but I see authentic individuals. Individuals who did not always do things rights, but who still walked with God in their own unique way. A way that is written down for all of us to witness.
We encounter people each day that exemplify something in their character that provokes admiration. Just recently I watched a special on two men who had the determination to build a solar plane that would take them around the world. There was much to admire in these two men, including their devotion to their families, and the support team that they put in place to preserve their vision. After watching this unfold from the comfort of my home it did not escape me that these were people of character. It takes character to do the right thing for everyone involved and to do it well.
At the end of the day, middle of the day, or beginning of the day, we recognize the God character in people who have immersed themselves in a relationship that marks who they are becoming. The relationship that God had with Moses was not developed in a comfortable chair. It was 40 years in the desert that framed who this man of God would become.
Exodus 3:14-15 CSB God replied to Moses, “I Am WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you” God also said to Moses, “Say this to the Israelites: The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Issac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, this is how I am to be remembered in every generation.”
