Who is trying to use your past against you?

You read this question and I think that a person dropped right into your mind. I believe that this person is not someone who you dislike, in fact, they may be very close to you, and yet as you move forward they are there to remind you of how you failed in the past. These people may be very well meaning and believe they are reminding you so that you don’t make the same mistake again. Yet, when your past is brought up in this way you feel a nagging discomfort.

As I was thinking of this question I am immediately reminded of the Scripture in Isaiah 43:18-19 which says, “Do not remember the past events, pay no attention to things of old. Look, I am about to do something new: even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.”

This Scripture gets me excited! It is what I know to be true and what I hold onto with every ounce of godly determination. My Father, your Father, has good things for us. Things that will surprise and delight us in a way that will put to rest all those nagging thoughts that want to rob us of our future.

I mediate on 1 John 4:17 which tells me that in this world we believers are like Jesus. Jesus does not condemn us and will cast no stone our way. This is enough for me to know that my agreement is with God’s Word, God’s thoughts for me, and that my present and future are good.

John 8:10-11 CSB When Jesus stood up, He said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you? No one Lord, she answered. Neither do I condemn you, said Jesus. Go, and from now on do not sin anymore.”

Are we carefully stewarding the resources that we have available to us?

Do you know someone who is sick?
