Do we compensate those that do much with very little?

My youngest daughter was telling me about a large garage sale that she recently attended. What I found to be so interesting about this particular endeavor was that there was a specific order of operation that they had agreed to follow. They allowed anyone who worked in a service profession, such as police, fire, teachers, and the like, to have the option to buy the items first, and for these specific individuals the cost would be discounted. So, technically they would not only be allowed to go first, but for them the prices would be lower. I thought that this was a brilliant idea!

Essentially, these people who work to provide what the rest of us desperately need, and depend upon, but who actually have salaries that are considered lower than other professions, would be recognized and compensated for their contribution. The compensation was certainly not all that they deserve, but I felt it was a gesture that spoke volumes.

This subject really got me thinking of what these individuals sacrifice to keep us safe, and to teach our children. It comes down to our very life which we hold so precious, and the lives of our children and families. Yet, these are the very professions that few go into with the idea what they will be highly compensated financially, or that their hours will be less. I wonder if they believe that the appreciation that they will receive will be a reward in itself? I hope that they experience what is really called for in the form of gratitude in abundance. This would be my heartfelt desire.

The individuals who are called into service for others have a heart to serve. They meet the needs that others have by doing what they have been trained to do. For those who have chosen these fields, it is out of a core belief that they can make a difference. I believe that it is something that they don’t ever turn off. So, for those who are called to be teachers, they are called to teach whether they are in the classroom or not.

These people who serve may be believers, or non-believers, but they are positioned to make an impact.

As believers we are called to actively bring the Kingdom of God into the marketplace, whether it be our place of employment, or when we are buying and selling. Either way it is kingdom economics that must be obvious to those that experience us in the world. We are all called to give as God has asked us to give. Giving of ourselves and our resources in such a way that the principles of heaven are on display for all to see. We know that as children of God we are making deposits into our heavenly account as we honor His Word.

Ephesians 2:10 CSB For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do.

Matthew 6:33 CSB But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.
