While talking to my oldest granddaughter the other day the above question came up. She immediately responded that her favorite place was home.
We have heard it said so often that home is where the heart is and I believe that few would disagree.
Where is home for you? My granddaughter is 9 years old, and her experience comes from living within a beautiful believing family. They are Christ centered and so she has felt safe and secure for her entire life. There is a song the children sing, “No matter where I roam it’s great to be back home.”
Much of my summer was spent away, and although travel has its advantages, there comes a time when nothing will suffice like returning to home base. Home base is what allows us the time to, not only unwind, but to reestablish what we have created in that place. Life is complex and we need the time to return to rest and a place of peace.
Our life experiences may not have been as nurturing as we would have liked in our early years but that should not stop us now. While there are some things that we can’t do over, creating an atmosphere where we establish peace and comfort is certainly not one of them. What we do to affirm home for ourselves and all that cross our thresholds is both beautiful and enduring.
Proverbs 24: 3-4 CSB A house is built by wisdom, and it is established by understanding; by knowledge the rooms are filled with every precious and beautiful treasure.
1 Samuel 25:6 CSB Then say this: “Long life to you, and peace to you, peace to your family, and peace to all that is yours.”
