My sister recently heard of the passing of someone she has casually known for some time. She was relating to me how this woman died, and then she said these words, “I hope she will be comfortable in eternity”. I was immediately struck with the weightiness of those words. They grab your attention, and it is impossible to move on until you have examined their significance.
When you receive the saving grace of salvation through Jesus Christ, then you will indeed have comfort in eternity. There are truly not enough adjectives in this life to describe what being in that life with God will be like. I do know that it will far exceed anything we can ever think or imagine. I can with all my heart say that I am thankful that I won’t miss it!
I have recently given much thought to the fact that my eternal life will be beyond description. I have also given much thought to the fact that some people that I know can not presently say the same. They are far from understanding the need for a Savior because they are enjoying this life so much. They are not outwardly doing what many would say is bad, but they have not decided on Jesus either.
As people of God, who understand His character, we know how mercy is paramount in all that He does. Clearly, there are times when we may argue with how a situation plays out, but the Father does not lack mercy ever. His heart is full of love and His mercies are new every morning. I love the Scripture that says, “I am not a man that I should lie.”
What was required for you and I is the same for all mankind. A recognition that we need Jesus, repentance for sins committed, whether knowingly or unknowingly, and a turning away from future transgressions. But, should we fall again into sin, as a child of God, the Lord is faithful and He will forgive us. This is God’s promise to us, not just once, but each time we repent and ask for forgiveness.
When you know something good you want to share it, and the good news of the gospel of Jesus needs to be at the top of our list. Surely, we do want others to be counted among those who will indeed be comfortable in eternity!
Numbers23:19 God is not a man, that He might lie, or a son of man, that He might change His mind. Does He speak and not act, or promise and not fulfill?
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
