Fear never stands alone, for with it stands all manner of evil.
You may think that fear is a natural thing for every human being, that we should expect to be fearful, that fear helps in our decision making, but if you think these things then you have believed a lie.
Fear is a spirit. The enemy uses this spirit of fear to bring control, doubt, and uncertainty into your life, specifically targeting the very goodness of God. This enemy wants every human being, made in the image of God, to fear God, resent God, and pull back from God.
Today our pastor delivered an awesome message. One particular aspect of the teaching was especially pertinent to this post. It is that of being double-minded.
So, here is his definition of a double-minded Christian. Double-minded; one who tries to live by faith, while holding onto fear.
James 1:6-7 But let him ask in faith without doubting. For the doubter is like the surging sea, driven and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord, being double-minded and unstable in all his ways.
When a person is unstable they are tossed to and fro like the sea. One day they have a mind which tells them one thing, and the next they have a different opinion. They believe that they are using good judgment, and yet sound judgement is stable, not driven by fear, but born out of truth.
Isaiah 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.
