We often hear that laughter is good for the soul. I think laughter is good for every part of us! When we laugh we release tension that we may not fully understand, or acknowledge, but which is effecting us in acute ways. We may not sleep well, our focus may be off, our health may be suffering, relationships may be difficult, and these are just ones that come to mind immediately.
When my children were young they had a little friend whose father made it his business to teach people the benefits of laugher. He was not a clown, or a comedian, but he knew the benefits of laugher. Incredible as it may seem, he was paid very well by major corporations who knew that what he had to offer was important. These corporate executives knew that stress was a major factor in productivity and so they wanted their employees to laugh more. They had the wisdom to grasp the fact that stress is a killer, and that laughter is actually a life saver. If they wanted to keep people performing well, and not suffer from professional burn out, which would cost the company more, then they needed to do something. Of course, they were motivated by a profit margin, but either way the employees were the recipients of something life changing. In the 80’s this was very novel, and hopefully those same people are still laughing 40 years later.
We have heard it said that those that know God should be the happiest people on the planet. I agree with this statement, so why is this often not the case? We have, and know, what many do not! They expect this life to be hard. We have God’s Word and we know what it says. Joy comes with the morning. Our Father will turn our mourning into dancing, He will cloth us with gladness, and we will praise Him forever! Hallelujah!!
Next time you feel like crying just laugh instead. Say to the devil, ‘ha ha ha’ and laugh your way to victory! Do as your Father in heaven does.
Psalm 2:4 God—Enthroned merely laughs at them; the Sovereign One mocks their madness!
