Writing this post is like being in a conversation with myself. Twenty years ago a very wise woman told me that I did not have to defend God, that He was big enough to stand on His own merit, and she was absolutely correct. My affirmation of God’s character does not change God, but it does change me.
God is good and His word declares that He is good. When I believe God is good it is because I have witnessed His goodness in my life. That belief is rooted in a faith that tells me that His word is true, and that His word declares that He is good.
The other day my husband was illustrating this basic truth when he said, “God is good and the devil is bad.” In other words, God can never be anything that is bad, and the devil can never be anything that is good.
In every and all situations God is good. His character is true to His word and His word declares Who He is in every circumstance. To believe otherwise is to believe a lie. God’s word testifies to what is true about God, so when you understand His word you will believe He is good.
Why is it so important to believe that God is good? Simply because there will be difficult times when you may want to say that God may be good, but this time He was not. You may be swayed by those circumstances to think counter to what you know. It is easy to agree that God is good when life is good, but not easy when life is bad.
Our profession of faith must be steadfast and clear. I must profess that God is good all the time because there is nothing within God that would cause Him to ever be anything but good. So, is God good all the time? Yes, God is good all the time, every time, and with absolutely no exception!
James 1:17 CSB Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
