God and His timing are always perfect, which means that what we need, or what God is about to reveal, will never be late, nor will it be early. It will be exactly what it needs to be to accomplish all that God deems necessary.
Reading in 1 Samuel 30 about David and his mighty men inspires me. In this Scripture the men had returned to Ziklag to find that the Amalekites had kidnapped all the inhabitants and taken them away. The men with David were so angry that they threatened to stone him. You can read the full account for yourself, but the point for today was what David did in the midst of this crisis. You will likely remember that David gave himself a good talking to that day.
The men were so grieved by what had happened to those that they loved, that they turned on David blaming him entirely, even though we know from Scripture that they loved him. Their grief was so intense that they wanted to do David harm. Can you imagine how David must have felt to be in that place of, not only personal danger, but deep sorrow for the suffering he saw before him? Remember David also lost what was precious to him that day.
David responded in a way that was a testimony to his personal relationship, not with his men, but with his God. David encouraged himself. He found strength in the Lord his God, and what God told him to do, he did. David pursed the enemy, he overtook the enemy, he recused the people, and not one individual was lost, including David’s own wives.
When things look at their worst, when we need to be encouraged, where do we go? Do we find our strength in God, or in the strength of the people around us?
When we walk through the fire we can only be certain of one walking through that fire with us. For though we may be loved dearly, only God will not lose heart on that day of testing. God will be with us in that fire because He is the only one who can be!
Isaiah 43:2-3 CSB I will be with you when you pass through the waters, and when you pass through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. You will not be scorched when you walk through the fire, and the flame will not burn you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, and your Savior.
