Does your mind dictate your agreement?

This morning I was studying how the Holy Spirit is directly responsible for the renewing of our minds. Later I was reminded how agreement with God’s Word is not really achievable without that renewed mind, for it is unlikely that we would be capable of coming into agreement with anything from God’s perspective unless we are seeing it through renewed minds. In essence, the mind that has been renewed, the mind that is of Christ, is now a born-again mind that is spiritually connected to the things of God. The renewed mind is of Christ and it does not double back on itself, nor does it waver. It is steadfast to God’s Word.

It is not enough to read the Scriptures and think that you have deep understanding without the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God is equipped to bring us into deeper revelation, but He must first begin to renew our minds. Remember, your soul is defined by your mind, your will, and your emotions. As Holy Spirit begins to sanctify your soul, the mind, the will, and the emotions are all impacted. This is a necessary and wonderful process..

I recently heard a prophetic word delivered that truly set me free. It broke off in the spirit a malaise that had been trying to take root. This counterfeit spirit from the enemy was trying to impart hopelessness, despair, and disappointment. Upon hearing the Word of the Lord I was immediately set free from this dark spirit. As I listened to this word I knew in my spirit that it was true because I discerned it was God speaking.

A prophetic word must be a word that we discern deeply in our spirit as it speaks of God’s Word, God’s truth, and God’s uncompromising character. Our renewed mind bears witness and we can walk in assurance that what we have heard is true. However, without the mind of Christ we will not be sure, as our flesh works against the things of God.

The mind must be renewed, made into the mind of Christ, in order for us to walk in the fullness of our salvation. We do this when we cooperate with Holy Spirit in the sanctification process that takes place in the life of every believer.

Romans 8:6 “The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”

Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing, and perfect will.”

John 8:32 “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
